Loose Load At Landfill Lands Man In Court

A Boston man was turned over to South Kingstown Police on Mar. 3 after Johnston Police stopped him at the Central Landfill and found that he had an active warrant.

reported the arrest of Morris Williams, 52, of Boston, MA, on Mar. 3 on charges of driving with a suspended license, failure to properly secure a truck load of refuse bound for the Central Landfill, and an active arrest warrant issued by South Kingstown Police.

Ptlm. James Seymour reported that he was at a fixed post on Shun Pike at about 10 a.m. on Mar. 3 when he saw Williams's vehicle approach the entrance of the Central Landfill "with an unsecured load of wood and debris."

According to the police report, Seymour stopped the vehicle and made a check of Williams's license, finding that it has been suspended.

A check of Williams's BCI record also found that South Kingstown Police had issued a warrant for his arrest on charges of obtaining money under false pretenses.

Police charged Williams with a misdemeanor count of driving with a suspended license and a local violation of failing to fasten the refuse properly. At his arraignment at 11 a.m. that day before Justice of the Peace Christopher Millea, Williams pleaded not guilty and was released on $500 bail with surety until a scheduled Mar. 14 court date in Third District Court.

South Kingstown Police officers responded to the local police station to take custody of Williams on the warrant, Seymour reported.
