JPD Promotes Two

The local police department announced the promotions of Robert Abbruzzese to lieutenant and Dennis Peacock to sergeant.

The promoted two officers in a ceremony on June 15 at the senior center. Robert Abbruzzese earned the rank of lieutenant, and Dennis Peacock was promoted to sergeant.

Abbruzzese, a 14-year veteran of the department, has served for six years as a sergeant in the patrol division. A member of the deparment's Special Response Team, he holds an associates degree in Criminal Justice and is matriculating towards his bachelor's degree.

Abbruzzese, a graduate of Johnston High School, is a retired 15-year veteran of the U.S. Army who earned a Bronze Star in the war in Iraq.

Peacock has been on the local force for seven years, serving in the patrol division. He is a member of the S.R.T. team and a recipient of the Mayor's Medal and two Department Ribbons for meritorious police work.

Married with three children, Peacock is the first African-American to join the Johnston Police Department and to earn promotion to a supervisory position.
