JPD Promotes Four Officers

Four Johnston Police Officers started the new year with new ranks.

Four Johnston Police Officers rose in rank last week after a promotion ceremony at the Municipal Courthouse.

"It is a happy New Year for the four officers here," said Dep. Chief David DeCesare.

Promoted were:

Mark Bairos, to the rank of sergeant. Barios joined JPD in 2004 after working as a correctional officer for for years before that. As a member of the force, he's worked on the second watch patrol division, response team and is expected to get his bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Roger Williams University.

Steven Guilmette, to the rank of lieutenant. A longtime Johnston resident, Guilmette is a Marine Corps veteran and worked as a corrections officer for eight years before coming to JPD. Along with his police skills and a family background in law enforcement, he is a black belt in Tai Kwon Do.

Thomas Dolan, to the rank of captain. Before that, Dolan was a detective lieutenant. He is a highly decorated officer, earning a Purple Heart, Medal of Valor, and was a nominee for the National Association of Police Officers Top Cop award.

Marc Boisvert, to the rank of major. Boisvert came to JPD in 1995 and has been a key part of the Police Explorers program and is the president of the Rhode Island Police Explorers Academy. He has also received the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Community Hero award.

Johnston Mayor Joseph Polisena said the promoted officers represent the best the police department has to offer and Johnston residents should appreciate all they do to keep the community safe.

"They are truly dedicated," he said. "We can put our heads down at night knowing we're safe."
