Johnston Woman Jailed After Fight

Ashley Iannitti, 26, is being held at the ACI for violating bail terms from prior charges.

A 26-year-old Johnston woman remains held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions following her Sept. 29 arrest on assault and disorderly conduct charges.

Johnston Police arrested Ashley Iannitti after a reported fight at Ciara Restaurant, 678 Killingly St., at about 2:30 a.m.

Ptlm. Michael Andreozzi reported that all of the first-watch officers on duty that night responded to Ciara after the department received a report of a disturbance.

On the way to the restaurant, Andreozzi noted that dispatch personnel issued a notice that two other people in Ciara at the time of the fight, James Proulx, 43, and Rachel Dunn, 32, "had fled the scene."

Andreozzi reported that he and another officer went to Dunn's home on Highland Avenue and found the two in the driveway of the home.

After bringing Proulx and Dunn back to Ciara, Andreozzi said officers spoke with the three.

Dunn said that Iannitti had attacked her outside the restaurant, pulling her hair and "punching Ms. Dunn in the face and eye area," according to Andreozzi's report. Johnston Fire Department personnel treated Dunn for redness and swelling, as well as a black-and-blue eye, Andreozzi added.

Proulx, who identified Iannitti as an ex-girlfriend, told officers that he tried to separate the two women and asked a second man, David Viscolosi, to help.

Viscolosi, identified as Iannitti's boyfriend, replied: "Go [expletive] yourself, you and Rachel are both [expletive]," according to Proulx's account.

Dunn, who was 11 weeks' pregnant at the time of the incident, said she crouched to the ground and tried to protect her stomach.

Andreozzi wrote that Viscolosi later claimed that Proulx had assaulted him inside the restaurant, but that officers found "no evidence [or] injuries" to support Viscolosi's allegation.

Iannitti and Viscolosi appeared to be drunk, according to Andreozzi, who also noted that the pair had "slurred speech [and] bloodshot eyes."

Officers presented Iannitti as a bail violator before Asst. Atty. Gen. Robert Johnson, who petitioned for her to be brought to the ACI. Bail Commissioner John McMahon ordered her held without bail for violating bail terms set in a six-count case brought in February by Johnston Police.

In that case, local police charged Iannitti with DUI, first offense; refusal of a breath test, second offense; receiving stolen goods under $1,500; assault; resisting arrest; and disorderly conduct.

She also faces a violation hearing from an assault charge brought by Lincoln Police in July, where Judge Frank Cenerini had ordered the case filed if Iannitti had no further arrests.

Iannitti is also awaiting trial on DUI and drug possession charges brought by Rhode Island State Police in January, and on a separate charge of leaving the scene of an accident, property damage resulting, brought by Cranston Police in February.

At Viscolosi's arraignment on one count of disorderly conduct, McMahon ordered him released on $500 personal recognizance until a scheduled Oct. 9 hearing in Third District Court.

Viscolosi is also awaiting trial on a charge of driving with a suspended license brought by Providence Police in August.

Officers charged Proulx with one count of disorderly conduct, and released him until an Oct. 9 hearing.

In an earlier case where Smithfield Police charged Proulx with assaulting Iannitti in 2010, Proulx pleaded no contest and served one years' probation and a one-year suspended sentence on a domestic assault charges, and a concurrent six-month suspended sentence with six months' probation on a domestic disorderly charge brought by Smithfield Police.
