Police Captain Receives Justice Award

Capt. Marc Boisvert was awarded with the Gen. James O'Neill Award for Crime Prevention at the 7th Annual Justice Awards.

Capt. Marc Boisvert of the was one of 11 individuals honored by Rhode Island Atty. Gen. Peter Kilmartin at the 7th Annual Justice Awards, held Dec. 8 in Providence.

Named in honor of former state attorneys general, the Justice Awards recognize outstanding contributions to law enforcement and community service, Kilmartin explained.

“That’s what these awards are all about — people who help Rhode Islanders,” said Kilmartin of all the recipients.

“They dedicate themselves to the mission, which is to protect and serve,” said former Atty. Gen. Patrick Lynch, who started the awards during his time in office.

Boisvert received the Gen. James O’Neill Award for Crime Prevention. He was nominated for the award by Johnston Police Chief Richard Tamburini for his dedication to the Explorers, which is a program for young adults to look into possible careers in law enforcement.

Boisvert was joined by two of the older members of the Explorers, Mike Jaswell and John Sullivan, at the award ceremony.

“They make my job easier,” said Boisvert of the two cadets who help Boisvert with guiding the younger Explorers.

O’Neill, who served as attorney general from 1987 to 1993, presented Boisvert with the award and praised him for his work in providing young people with a role model.

Boisvert said he was honored to receive the award and thanked Chief Tamburini and Deputy Chief David M. DeCesare for nominating him.

The other recipients of this year’s Justice Awards were:

Patrolman Christopher Perreault received the Gen. Julius Michaelson Award for Law Enforcement, uniformed category. He was nominated for the award by Chief Peter Achilli and Deputy Chief Joseph Loiselle of the Warren Police Department.

Detective Daniel Turgeron received the Gen. Herbert DeSimone Award for Drug Enforcement. He was nominated for the award by Chief Thomas Carey and Lieutenant Kyle Stone of the Woonsocket Police Department for his undercover work that resulted in massive drug, cash and weapons seizures.

Elizabeth Kelleher Dwyer, Philip Sheridan and Robert Arrow of the Rhode Island Department of Business Regulation received the Gen. Arlene Violet Award for Consumer Protection. They were nominated by Paul McGreevy, Director of the Department of Business Regulation.

Eleanor “Candy” McSwain of Destiny House received the Gen. Dennis Roberts Award for Domestic Violence Prevention. She was nominated by Rochelle Baker, Chairwoman, Destiny House.

James Perrier of Friends of the Waterfront, Inc. received the Gen. Jeffrey Pine Award for Environmental Protection. He was nominated by Michael Rubin, Assistant Attorney General.

Detective Kenneth Court of the Providence Police Department received the Gen. Sheldon Whitehouse Award for Law Enforcement (non-uniform category.) Detective Court was nominated by Commissioner Steven Pare and Acting Chief Hugh Clements, Providence Police Department.

Karyn Hadfield of Day One received the Gen. Richard Israel Award for Senior Protection. She was nominated by Linnea Tuttle, Director, Elder Care Services.

Magistrate Alan Goulart of the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal was selected by former Atty. Gen.l Patrick Lynch to receive a special Justice Award. Previously a member of the Office of Attorney General staff, Goulart was recognized for his dedication and commitment to the judiciary.
