Johnston Police Arrest Two in Theft from Eyeglass Shop

Two Providence men await arraignment on felony theft and conspiracy charges after witnesses told police that the men stole more than $1,500 in eyeglasses from an Atwood Avenue business.

 

this week arrested two Providence men on felony larceny and conspiracy charges for their roles in the theft of more than $1,600 worth of merchandise from an Atwood Avenue optical shop.

According to police reports, Robert Regalado and Robert Ayala are suspected of working together to steal eyeglasses from The Eye Glass Shop on July 24 and Aug. 6.

In the second case, officers pulled over Regalado's car in Providence just a few minutes after witnesses called police to report the theft.

Sgt. Seth Crosby reported that after he stopped Regalado's car on Aug. 6, dispatch officers informed him that the two men matched the descriptions of two suspects from the July 24 incident.

One of the witnesses from the eyglass shop, brought to the scene by a Providence Police officer, identified Ayala and said he had fled the store on foot before Regalado picked him up in his car.

Ptlm. Jared DeAngelis reported that he and other officers later checked the area near the store and found nine pairs of glasses, valued at $1,660.

Police charged Regalado with one felony count of conspiracy, and filed felony counts of larceny and conspiracy against Ayala.

Officers presented both men for arraignment on Tuesday in Third District Court, Warwick, on the charges.
