Johnston Man Arrested By Massachusetts Police After High-Speed Chase

Nicholas J. Marshall, 24, of 8 Johnson Ave., had several outstanding warrants.

Masachusetts State Police arrested a Johnston man just after 6 p.m. on April 7 following what police described as a half-hour chase on Route 495, ending when the car he was driving rolled over at the Bourne rotary on Cape Cod.

Nicholas J. Marshall, 24, of 8 Johnson Ave., had been sought by Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Pennsylvania on four warrants stemming from vehicle larceny and other thefts he allegedly committed in those states.

According to Massachusetts State Police, Marshall had been fleeing from Mansfield Police officers after stealing a black Volkswagen sport utility vehicle. Officers from Mansfield informed state troopers of the chase, and reported that Marshall had a shotgun in the vehicle. Police said that they monitored Marshall's vehicle traveling at up to 100 miles per hour during the pursuit.

After Marshall drove the vehicle over devices that punctured the tires, he continued toward the Bourne rotary, where the car flipped over. Marshall suffered minor injuries and was transported to Falmouth Hospital.

Police charged Marshall with multiple violations of fleeing police, failure to stop, speeding, and driving to endanger. No shotgun was found in his possession or in the vehicle.
