Jason Spiver, 24, faces larceny charges after police found several items belonging to a resident of The Ledges apartment complex in a microwave stashed in a shed.

A Johnston man faces charges of larceny after a resident of The Ledges apartment complex on Federal Way said she discovered her wallet and several pieces of jewelry missing after she dropped off the suspect at a friend's house on June 9.

Ptlm. Mark Bairos reported that Trisha Kaminski, of 175 Federal Way, Apt. 302, went to police headquarters and told him that she suspected Spiver in the apparent theft of $27,000 worth of jewelry from her apartment.

Bairos wrote that Kaminski discovered the apparent theft after Spiver asked her to drop him off at a friends house, located at 706 Central Ave., at about 9 am that day. Kaminski said that after leaving Spiver at the Central Avenue address, she found that her wallet was missing.

Kaminski explained that she went back to her apartment and found that "all the jewelry she kept in her television stand in her bedroom was missing," Bairos reported.

According to Bairos, Kaminski also told officers that she had called Spiver on the phone and asked him about the incident; Kaminski said that Spiver told her that "the police are going to need a warrant to check my friend's house."

Three other men who had spent the night at Kaminski's apartment told police that they had nothing to do with the thefts, and further investigation determined that they were telling the truth.

One of the men, identified as Eugene Choiniere of Pawtucket, told police that he could not find his Ray-Ban sunglasses, valued at $150.

Bairos also reported that he, Det. Steven Lopez, and Ptlm. Adam Parkinson went to the Central Avenue address to investigate the incident.

Spiver "denied stealing anything," Bairos wrote, and after the residents signed a consent to a search by police, Lopez reported finding the items inside the microwave.

Lopes reported that after reading Spiver his rights at about 2:30 pm, Spiver "voluntarily provided a handwritten statement admitting to the theft of the items" and admitted to throwing Kaminski's wallet into a wooded area behind the Central Avenue property. Officers later found the wallet there.

Officers presented Spiver for arraignment on one felony and one misdemeanor charge of larceny. Justice of the Peace Steven Catalano released Spiver on $5,000 personal recognizance until a court hearing on Aug. 10.
