Johnston Intersection Among New England's Most Dangerous

Exit 6 off Interstate 295 has been the site of hundreds of accidents and dozens of injuries over the last few years.


Of the 10 most dangerous intersections in all of New England, eight are found in Rhode Island, one of which is in Johnston, according to GoLocalProv.

Exit 6 off Interstate 295 is listed as the number 6 most dangerous intersection in the region. The Route 6/I-295 interchange has seen 144 accidents over the last three years, 78 of which caused significant property damage. Sixty-five of the accidents there resulted in injury, and one was fatal, accoding to the website's research. 

"This draw-over of traffic via Exit 6 to Route 6 can be a last-minute lane-changing challenge," the website reported.

Other nearby intersections also made the most-dangerous list, lncluding exit 3 off 295 in Cranston. The cloverleaf interchange with Route 37 has been the site of 95 accidents in the last three years, 59 of which caused injury, and one of which was fatal.

The most dangerous intersection in the state, according to GoLocalProv, is exit 20 off Interstate 95 in Providence. The Point Street exit has seen 217 accidents in the three years of the study, 90 of which resulted in injury and two of which were fatal.
