Johnston Fire Department Seeks Applicants

Following is a press release issued by Johnston Fire Chief Timothy McLaughlin.

The Town of Johnston is seeking applicants to be placed on the Firefighter eligibility list.

Applications will be made available from February 15, 2012 through February 29, 2012 during the hours 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. at the , 1520 Atwood Ave., Johnston, RI, 02919.

The starting salary for these positions is at Firefighter Level 3 pay grade.

Individuals seeking to apply for the eligibility list shall meet the following minimum qualifications:

• United States Citizen (conversant in English)
• At least eighteen (18) years of age, but not more than thirty-five (35) years of age at time of appointment (Photocopy of Birth Certificate or Naturalization papers required)
• Possess a valid driver’s license (Photocopy required)
• Possess a high school diploma/GED certificate (Photocopy required)
• Possess a current Rhode Island Firefighter Physical Performance Assessment Testing Certificate issued by the Rhode Island Fire Chiefs Association. (Photocopy required)
• Must obtain and present current Rhode Island EMT license upon appointment (Photocopy required)
• Must present a certified copy of a criminal background check obtained from the Office of the Attorney General
• Must present a certified copy of driving record obtained from the Operator Control Office of the Division of Motor Vehicles
• Must verify residency (photocopies required of two (2) of the following: voter registration, motor vehicle registration, insurance documents or tax documents
• Must obtain and pass NFPA 1582 physical examination at applicant’s expense
• Must obtain, at individual’s expense, a Rhode Island EMT-C certification within the first year of employment and maintain the certification during employment with the Town.

All completed applications must be received by the Office of the Fire Chief located at 1520 Atwood Ave., Johnston, Rhode Island, 02919 no later than 4 p.m. on February 29, 2012. Incomplete applications shall not be considered. All applications must be accompanied by a non-refundable application and testing fee of $100.00 in the form of a certified check or money order made payable to the Town of Johnston.

The date and time that applications are submitted shall break any ties in written test scores.

Only applicants who apply during this period will be considered. All prior applicants must reapply.
