Johnston 18-Year-Old Charged with Stealing Liquor

Kevin Wulff was identified by staffers at Busa Liquors on Atwood Avenue after he left the store with stolen alcohol, according to Johnston Police.

A 18-year-old from Johnston faces misdemeanor shoplifting, resisting arrest, and obstruction charges following the theft of alcohol from Busa Liquors on Atwood Avenue on Sept. 1.

Johnston Police Ptlm. Adam Parkinson reported that he went to the liquor store at about 4:30 p.m. and spoke with the manager, David Marocco, who said that a customer had told him about two men stealing liquor from the store.

An employee of the store, Dina Venditti, told Parkinson that one of the men had been "attempting to distract her" and was "sweating profusely" while the talked, leading her to believe that he was acting as a decoy.

At about the same time, Ptlm. Jared DeAngelis located Wulff walking in the area of Ricotti's across the street from the liquor store, in the direction of Hartford Avenue.

Parkinson and DeAngelis reported that Wulff fled from them and jumped over the fence at Woodlawn Estates before the officers could catch up to him.

In checking Wulff's backpack, Parkinson reported that he found a 750-ml bottle of Skyy vodka, a 750-ml bottle of Dewar's scotch, and a 7-oz. bottle of Bud Light that the Busa employees had identified as being stolen.

Wulff refused to give officers any information on the second suspect, Parkinson noted.

According to online court records, Wulff is scheduled for formal arraignment in Third District Court on Sept. 11.
