A former Correctional Officer and Johnston resident has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for assaulting and abusing inmates while he was a captain at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston.
Gualter Botas, 44, of Johnston, told the courtroom that he "look[s] back at that time and wonder who that person was," before he was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Daniel A. Procaccini.
Botas appealed his conviction but it was upheld by the court in April.
