Foot Chase Ends in Trespassing Charge

Johnston Police allege that the suspect broke the window of his parents' front door.

on June 3 charged Alexander J. Correia, 21, of 15 Schofield St., with domestic willful trespass; domestic vandalism/malicious injury to property; domestic disorderly conduct; and resisting arrest after his parents reported him on their property in violation of a no-trespass order.

Shortly after 9 a.m. on June 3, Ptlm. Luca Lancellotti Jr. responded to 13 Schofield St. to investigate a report of a domestic disturbance. Correia’s mother had called police headquarters and reported that Correia was on the property violating a no-trespass order and causing a disturbance.

While his mother was on the phone with dispatch, she stated that her son broke the front door window and ran away heading east on Boundary Avenue.

Lancellotti reported that as he arrived at Boundary Avenue, he saw a man fitting Correia’s description running through a backyard.

According to his report, Lancellotti chased Coreia on foot through yards and streets, identified himself as a police officer and ordered Correia to stop because he was under arrest.

Following the chase, Lancellotti caught up with Correia and placed him under arrest.

Correia’s parents told Lancellotti that Correia began to yell at his father after being told that he could not be there. The father said that he heard the glass door break after he returned to the house, and that when he looked outside, he saw Correia run from the scene.

Following his arraignment at police headquarters, Correia was remanded to the Adult Correctional Institutions for violating probation stemming from felony charges of larceny over $500 and domestic vandalism brought by West Warwick Police in July, 2011.

At a pretrial hearing held June 4 in Kent County Superior Court, Associate Judge Walter R. Stone ordered Correia held without bail until a scheduled June 13 hearing.
