It Wasn't 'Just a Cigar'

A Johnston man faces drug possession and suspended license charges after a local officer reported seeing him smoking a marijuana cigar on Atwood Avenue.

 

charged a local man with one count each of marijuana possession, driving with a suspended license, and driving in possession of drugs following a stop on July 6.

Nicholas W. Zorabedian, 19, of 49 Taylor Rd., Johnston, was traveling south on Atwood Avenue when Ptlm. Robert Cardoza saw him smoking what looked like a "marijuana cigar," according to police reports.

Cardoza reported that when he approached Zorabedian’s car, he smelled burnt marijuana from inside the vehicle.

According to Cardoza's report, Zorabedian told him: “You pulled me over because you saw me smoking weed,” and said that he also had marijuana stashed under the emergency brake in the car.

Ptlm. Matthew Leveillee arrived and assisted Cardoza with a search of the car. The oficers found a plastic bag containing 9.5 grams of marijuana; a digital scale; a glass pipe; and a metal pipe “commonly used to smoke marijuana,” according to Leveillee’s report.

Officers formally charged Zorabedian at Johnston Police Headquarters and released him with a summons to appear in Third District Court at a hearing to be scheduled.
