Breaking: State Police Announce Child Porn Arrests

One Johnston resident was among several suspects arrested this morning as part of "Operation Darknet."


Rhode Island State Police this morning announced the arrests of several suspects from around the state on child pornography charges, including one resident of Johnston.

During a phone interview just after 11 a.m., Capt. Michael Winquist confirmed that officers from the State Police Computer Crime Unit and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed 14 search warrants as part of "Operation Darknet," resulting in "numerous arrests."

Winquist said the suspects were charged with "possession and/or distribution of child pornography," and are scheduled for arraignment today in Third, Fourth and Sixth District Courts.

A press conference is scheduled for 1:30 this afternoon at the State Police Barracks in Scituate.
