Update: Greenslit Sentenced For Probation Violation

The Johnston man reportedly admitted to killing the mother of his children and attempting to burn her remains.

The suspect in a Johnston murder and dismemberment case was sentenced  to nine months in prison and remains held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston following a hearing today in Third District Court.

Donald Greenslit, 52, spent fewer than four minutes before Associate Judge Frank Cenerini and admitted to violating the terms of probation that Cenerini had imposed on Nov. 3, 2011.

At the time of the murder, Greenslit was serving a suspended sentence and probation for domestic simple assault brought by Johnston Police following his arrest on Oct. 21.

Appearing at about 3:15 p.m. and dressed in a longsleeve white shirt, blue jeans, and black sneakers, Greenslit was shackled to another defendant in a separate case and answered Cenerini's questions about admitting to the probation violation.

The charges heard today stemmed from Greenslit's arrest on Jan. 22 for reportedly killing and dismembering his girlfriend, Stacie M. Dorego, in their Pershing Road home and trying to burn her remains in a fireplace.

Greenslit faces several charges, including one felony count of domestic murder; two felony counts of second-degree child abuse; one felony count of violating a no-contact order obtained by Dorego in November, 2011; and misdemeanor charges of obstructing firefighters and disorderly conduct. Those charges are still pending.

According to Johnston Police, Greenslit tried to keep police officer and fire personnel out of the Pershing Road home when they responded to calls of a house fire. Investigators found burned remains — later determined to be Dorego's — in a basement fireplace.

Two young children were also found in an upstairs bedroom, leading to the child abuse charges against Greenslit.

Following his arrest, Greenslit reportedly admitted to killing Dorego and trying to dispose of her body by burning her remains.

Judge Pamela Woodcock-Pfeiffer ordered Greenslit held without bail at his arraignment on Jan. 24; he was serving a suspended sentence and probation at the time of Dorego's murder.

In recent weeks, several groups have organized fundraisers for Dorego's children, including a 15-year-old who was not living in the home. Organizers of two events announced this week that $13,000 had been raised.

Greenslit is next scheduled to appear for a court review on May 24.
