Assault at Brewed Results in Arrest

reported this week that they arrested a 19-year-old local man on assault and vandalism charges after several witnesses reported seeing him punch and hit another man with a plastic chair at the coffee shop at 1395 Atwood Ave.

Ptlm. Michael Protano reported that he and four other officers responded to the coffee shop at about 5 pm on May 11 and found the two men already separated following an apparent fight.

Michael Gaudiana, 19, of 9 Angell Road, had been handcuffed by Ptlm. Derek Parascandolo "due to [Gaudiana's] irate and disorderly behavior," Protano reported.

The apparent victim, identified as Leonard Macari, 55, of Peppermint Lane, had a cut near his left ear, Protano wrote in his report.

Three witnesses told Protano that they saw Gaudiana drive his car up to the curb outside the coffee shop, leave his car, and hit Macari "with closed fists and a lawn chair."

One of the legs to the chair broke off, Protano added, and the owner, David Levesque, said he wanted to press charges against Gaudiana.

Macari told officers "that he knows Mr. Guadiana due to the fact that he had a past relationship with his mother approximately 5 months ago," Parascandolo reported.

Officers took Gaudiana back to police headquarters and presented him for arraignment before Justice of the Peace Richard Finnegan, who released Gaudiana on $1,000 personal recognizance until a scheduled May 23 court hearing.
