Amber Alert Issued After Double Murder, Kidnapping

Update, 12:40 p.m., Aug 12:

Johnston Police Chief Richard S. Tamburini announced Monday morning that Crowell has been cleared of possible charges after he cooperated with investigators.

Update, 1:25 p.m., Aug. 11:

Massachusetts State Police have arrested Malcolm Crowell, the suspect in an early morning double murder and kidnapping, NBC 10 is reporting.


Update, 11:23 a.m., Aug. 11:

Officers from the Johnston Police Department are still on-site at the scene of an apparent double murder and kidnapping at 3 Oaktree Drive in Johnston, according to Deputy Chief Daniel Parrillo.

The identities of the victims are not yet being released, Parrillo said, and police are still gathering evidence inside the home.

Parrillo confirmed that the suspect, Malcolm Crowell, 22, was seen leaving the scene early this morning, allowing police to issue his photo in connection with the apparent abduction of Isaih Perez, 2.

A "small black passenger car" was also seen leaving the area this morning, but Parrillo said police do not have any further specifics.

Officers are also investigating the connection between Crowell and the toddler, Parrillo added.

An amber alert has been issued after a double murder and kidnapping in Johnston.

Johnston Police said the murder occurred at 5:20 a.m. this morning at 3 Oaktree Drive. A 2-year-old boy was taken from the scene by Malcom Crowell, 22.

Crowell is a black male who stands about 5-feet, 6-inches tall and weighs about 145 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

The 2-year-old's name is Isaih Perez and is Hispanic.

Crowell is considered armed and dangerous.
