50 Watches Stolen from Johnston House

The value of the watches is estimated to be about $25,000.

Johnston Police are investigating the burglary of a Johnston home during which the culprit made off with 50 watches worth a combined $25,000.

Police said they were dispatched to the Harris Avenue house around 10 a.m. on June 16 where the victim told police that he came home two hours earlier after being gone since June 14 when he discovered the robbery.

The victim said he walked into the living room, turned on the TV and a short while later realized the rear window was removed and left on his deck.

Upstairs, the dresser drawers were rummaged through and 50 of his watches, including Movado and Invicta watches, were gone. A nearby jewelry box containing some gold and other jewelry was empty as well.

The same person was the victim of a larceny from his car on June 11, police said. In that incident, the culprit took a cell phone, cash, debit and credit cards and softball equipment. The total value of those items was also estimated to be about $25,000, police said.

Police observed the rear window to the house had scuff marks around it and fresh dirt. The screen was still resting against the wall near the rear door.
