Egas "Iggy" Almeida

The Johnston resident passed away on Jan. 22.

Egas “Iggy” Almeida, 84, died at his home on Sunday January 22, 2012. He was the husband of the late Rita A. (Brodeur) Almeida.

Born in East Bridgewater, MA, he was a son of the late Manuel and Adrizanda (Santos) Almeida, he lived in Johnston for sixty years previously living in Smithfield. 

Mr. Almeida was a WWII veteran of the Army Air Corps. He was the owner along with his wife of the former Lee’s General Store in Greenville, Rhode Island until his retirement.

He is survived by his son, Richard E. Almeida of Johnston, two grandchildren, Richard and Diana Almeida and a brother, Arthur Almeida of Lincoln. He was the brother of the late Manuel Santos, Johnny Santos, Mary Martel and Edward Almeida. 

Funeral Thursday at 8:30 AM from the ANDERSON-WINFIELD Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial in Notre Dame Cemetery, Pawtucket. Visitation Wednesday 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Smithfield Vikings Football, 14 Julien Street, Smithfield, RI 02917
