Amelda W. “Dukie” [Stone] Fleury, 94: Widow of Johnston Police Officer

Mrs. Fleury passed away on Sept. 12, 2013.

Amelda W. “Dukie” [Stone] Fleury, 94, died peacefully Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013 at Fatima Hospital, according to Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home.

She was the widow of Joseph E. Fleury, Ret. Captain, Johnston Police Department, and was married to him for 55 years until his death in 2001.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Richard W. and Catherine (Locke) Stone and was the youngest of their 14 children, 10 of whom reached adulthood.

From childhood, she had been known as ‘Dukie” to her family and many friends. She had been an executive secretary at Welsh Mfg.Co. in Providence for 18 years.

Mrs. Fleury is preceded in death by her brothers: Rev. Richard A. Stone, O.P., William E. , Earl J. and Francis R. Stone; her sisters, Rita Doherty, Beatrice Short, Kathleen Crocker, Madeline O’Connor and Gertrude Ileo. She was aunt to 17 nieces and nephews.

Her funeral was held Tuesday, Sept. 17, from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville, RI. Burial in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Robert Bellarmine Food Bank.
