NFL Superagent's Ignorance Overshadows Release Of Another Study On Texting and Driving
Controversial NFL agent Drew Rosenhaus apparently missed the latest study released last week concerning the dangers of texting and driving.
I was not going to write another blog about the dangers of texting and driving... I really wasn't... but then I saw NFL "superagent" Drew Rosenhaus on 60 Minutes. Mr. Rosenhaus went on national TV and, while driving in his shiny Escalade, mentioned that he texts while driving and carries two (2) phones with him in the SUV so he can surf the web and take calls. He said this while driving and as he was turned to face the interviewer — while also holding a phone up to drive home his point! The clip is here if you missed it. At least the comments below the segment all picked up on his disregard for others while behind the wheel.
The interview came in the same week as another groundbreaking study was released that further highlighted the dangers of texting and driving (at this point, do we really need more studies?). This study purported to be the first published work in the U.S. to examine texting while driving in an actual driving conditions. The link is here.
"Our findings suggest that response times are even slower than what we originally thought," said Christine Yager, a TTI researcher, who managed the study. "Texting while driving basically doubles a driver's reaction time and makes the driver less able to respond to sudden roadway dangers, if a vehicle were to make a sudden stop in front of them or if a child was to run across the road."

I guess Mr. Rosenhaus was too busy on his phone to catch the news.
