Where to Plunge Into Icy Waters on New Year's Day

Looking to greet 2013 with an icy stare? Hope to dare the odds and freeze your butt off this New Year's Day? 

Lucky for you, there's plenty of polar plunges happening in and around Portsmouth! 

Here's a look at Polar (and Seal) Plunges happening this Tuesday, Jan. 1:

Portsmouth 

New Year's Plunge — Participants meet just before noon at The Beach House, 500 Park Ave. This plunge will be the first event celebrating the town's 375th anniversary this year! Volunteers hope 375 residents "take the plunge!"

Tiverton 

The second annual Tiverton Yacht Club's Penguin Plunge — The plunge will take place at noon at Grinnell's Beach, Main Road and Lawton Avenue in Tiverton. The event is free and open to public. A $10 donation will be accepted to benefit the Tiverton Library. 

Newport

34th Annual New Year's Day Polar Bear Plunge — The plunge will begin at noon at Easton's Beach. The plunge will benefit A Wish Come True Foundation

Jamestown 

Jamestown First Day Plunge — The first day plunge will take place at noon, but festivities will start at 10 a.m. at the recreation center, 41 Conanicus Ave.
