Town Bond Rating Increased

S&P said the rating increase is due to the town's "stronger financial performance."

Things are looking up for Johnston, at least when it comes to the town's bond rating.

Standard & Poors said Thursday that it raised Johnston's general obligation bond rating to A from A- with a stable outlook.

The upgrade is because the town's financial performance is "stronger" and has displayed "improved financial management practices," said Victor Medeiros, an S&P credit analyst.

The rating take into account the town's work resolving its unfunded liabilities.

"The stable outlook reflects the town's ongoing progress toward improving financial, budget management practices and reserves," Medeiros said.
