Things To Do On Winter Break: December 31

You don't need to stay out until midnight to celebrate today.

The holiday break between Christmas and New Year's doesn't have to mean days full of X-Box or A Christmas Story. All week, JohnstonPatch has been looking at the local and nearby events and attractions that will keep you in the holiday spirit — but not in the house.

From 9 a.m. to noon, continues its New Year Crafts activity. Open to all ages; children must be accompanied by a caregiver. Make a hat, make a card, make New Year's bright and cheery!

Speaking of bright and cheery, those decorations and other New Year's crafts will fit right in at Bright Night in downtown Providence. Festivities kick off at noon in Kennedy Plaza, and are scheduled to feature 140 performers in 26 venues. An opening ceremony, fireworks and a special Waterfire are also slated as part of the event.

From 4 to 6 and 7 to 9 p.m., Town Hall Lanes will host two sessions of Cosmic Family Bowl. Reservations and a $35 non-refundable deposit are required. Cost is $59 per lane for parties of up to six bowlers.
