RI Health Dept. Issues Rabies Alert

Tests on a horse named "Wise Guy," stabled at 315 Morgan Ave., were inconclusive, leading the health department to issue a notice.

The Rhode Island Department of Health on issued a rabies alert today, following a test performed on "Wise Guy," a horse who was stabled at 315 Morgan Ave.

According to the alert, the rabies test was inconclusive, leading health officials to issue the advisory for anyone who may have come into contact with the horse after Sept. 19.

The advisory defines "contact" as "a bite, scratch, or horse saliva deposited in an open wound."

Feeding the horse by hand "would not be contact of concern," the advisory noted.

Anyone concerned about their contact with Wise Guy should call the Rhode Island Department of Health at (401) 222-2257 through 4 p.m. on Oct. 7, and at (401) 265-3011 on Oct. 8 through 10 from noon to 3 p.m.
