Officials Predict Windy Night in Rhode Island

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the state.

It won't be a quiet, winter night in Johnston tonight.

The National Weather Service out of Taunton has issued a gale warning for coastal Rhode Island as officials predict that winds will be picking up significantly in the next few hours.

Gusts could top 30 knots (50 mph) along the coast and up through Narragansett Bay. Officials have issued a wind advisory for Bristol, Kent, Washington and Newport Counties from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. Block Island has been issued a high wind warning for the same time period.

Though these winds won't be as strong as the ones that brought an , officials are warning that these possibly damaging winds might down tree limbs and power lines. The winds may also cause isolated power outages.

This weather system will also bring mild temperatures, as temperatures drop only into the 40s overnight, and rain.
