Johnston Schools Closed Friday

A potentially historic blizzard is bearing down on Rhode Island.


No class in Johnston tomorrow. Johnston public schools are closed Friday due to the approaching blizzard, the school department announced Thursday afternoon.

Snow is expected to begin Friday morning, intensifying throughout the day and reaching its height overnight Friday, into Saturday morning. At its peak, the storm is expected to dump as much as 3 inches an hour on Johnston, with some estimates putting the total snowfall over 2 feet.

Strong winds are expected to accompany the storm, with gusts approaching 60 mph. Travel will be hazardous, and drivers are advised to stay off the roads Friday into Saturday.
