Johnston Ranks 36th in GoLocal Poll — Speak Out Here

The Providence-based website named Johnston the number-36 community in Rhode Island.

Taking a further slide from the 2012 list of "Best Communities" by GoLocalProv.com, Johnston has been given the number-36 spot in the website's annual review of Rhode Island cities and towns.

A description posted on this year's results points to a 2000 census showing 46.7 percent attesting to Italian heritage as part of the town's 'Big Hair reputation.'

In breaking down the details of the overall 36th-place [of 39 communities], GoLocalProv's 'Best Communities Team' listed Johnston's education ranking as 34th and 'Economic Condition' as 36th.

Last year, Johnston ranked 34th, between Jamestown and Little Compton — but this year outpaced both coastal towns.

In ranking other local towns, GoLocalProv listed Smithfield at 16, Lincoln at 19, North Providence at 35, and Burillville at 31.
