Is The Bear Back in RI?

DEM officials are trying to capture a black bear roaming in Rhode Island. Have you seen it in Johnston.

The state Department of Environmental Management said a black bear has been seen roaming through North Kingstown in recent days, alarming some residents. Recently, Cranston was abuzz with reports that a black bear was roaming through the city, raising the possibility one or more bears could be making the state home.

DEM officials said the bear is unlikely to attack humans but said people should never approach it.

If you see the bear, call 401-220-3070.

The bear was last seen in the area of the Gilbert Stuart Homestead in North Kingstown.

The question is — is the bear heading back north toward Johnston? If you spot him, let DEM — and us — know.
