Ways to get ready for the haunted holiday hit the list of 5 Things to Know Today for Oct. 25, 2012.

 

1. Enter the Patch Halloween Contests: This year, Patch is offering two ways to show off your handiwork:

  • Costume Contest: This is a national competition to see who's got the best costume — winner gets $5,000. Click here for info on how to enter.
  • Pumpkin Decorating Contest: Rhode Island Patch sites are also hosting a contest for best jack-o-lantern [or painted pumkpin]. Check out the details here.

2. Make Your Own Costume: Thinking of entering our costume contest — or just trying to save a few bucks this Halloween? Abby Jordan has some great homemade costume ideas.

3. Create a Mummy Head: Marian J. Mohr Library is hosting this creepy craft today at 2:30 pm for kids in grades 6 to 12. Free.

4. Draw a Scary Scene: Mohr Library's resident artiste, Ms. Melyssa, is scheduled to hold art instruction for kids in grades 7 and up at 3:30 pm. Call (401) 231-4980 ext. 4 for more details.
