General Assembly 2013. Pass or Fail? You Decide.

We all know the biggest news story that came out of this year's session was the vote on Gay Marriage. How could we not with the amount of media attention that filled the radio and television broadcasts and newspapers. This story even topped the critical proceedings in the house about the bill to make calamari the states official appetizer which the senate poo-pooed on.

So what did our illustrious leaders leave the Rhode Island people with? They left us with gay married folk that can invite over the Rhode Island fishermen and 49,000 other unemployed Rhode Islanders to sit and watch our all too comfortable lawmakers pat themselves on the back and say " Good work! See you in January".

We have the last minute decision to put in a 10 cent toll on the Sakonnet River Bridge starting Aug. 19, which by the way in case you were busy calling in your unemployment claim and missed it, is nothing more that a way to raise the toll later, go back on the promise that was made to Rhode Islanders and satisfy some back room deal to play political bill trading. They can't even decide on how they are going to impose the toll. Where will that money come from?

The sickening part of this is the attitude. Senate President Teresa Weed made this statement... "If we aren't committed to finding a way to fund infrastructure, we may all win our elections ... but the gift that we're going to pass on to future generations is going to be crumbling infrastructure." DID YOU CATCH IT? "We may all win our elections ... but"!!! Now is that not pure unadulterated GALL?

THIS IS THE PROBLEM FOLKS!!! This is the attitude that makes up most of our Senate and General Assembly. No worries, No remorse, AND NO ACCOUNTABILITY!
