Sewer Project Stops Thru Traffic on Central Ave. in Johnston

The work is part of a $4 million project funded by Rhode Island Resource Recovery.

 

Construction crews were busy installing a new sewer line along Central Avenue near the I-295 overpass, closing the road to travel from Atwood Avenue to Reservoir Avenue, as part of a $4 million project funded by .

Follow these alternate routes:

  • Rt. 6 west (near ) to I-295 north, circling around to Hartford Avenue near , and proceeding west to Reservoir Avenue;
  • Atwood Avenue north to Hartford Aveue, then left at and west to Reservoir.

The work to install a new 12-in. sewer line began in July following a c, and crews have been steadily working their way east on Central Avenue.

On Friday morning, backhoes were in action, covering one part of the roadway with dirt prior to paving and digging a trench in another area for installation of the sewer line.
