Planning to Shop on Saturday? Catch a Ride on the 'Shopping Shuttle'

The North Central Chamber of Commerce is offering local shoppers a chance to visit great local businesses and have lunch, all for $10.

UPDATE: Pocasset Bay Retirement Living is the starting point for the Shopping Shuttle. This article has been edited to reflect the change.

Building on the success of this past summer's 'Taste of North Central Rhode Island,' the North Central Chamber of Commerce has organized a shuttle tour of local small businesses on Saturday, Nov. 24.

As part of the Chamber's recognition of Small Business Saturday, the organization is offering bus transportation to shops in Johnston, North Scituate, and North Providence, as well as lunch at a local restaurant — all for $10 prepaid.

The starting point for the scheduled 10 am departure is Pocasset Bay Retirement Living in Johnston.

Chamber President Deb Ramos explained the idea behind the 'Shopping Shuttle' during a recent interview at the Chamber office.

"We figured we'd take what worked as far as the Taste of North Central and turn it into a shopping trip, bringing some shoppers into local small businesses," Ramos said. "All of the businesses are very excited to have us."

The planned stops are Wishes Under Wrap of Johnston, Charming Treasures of North Scituate, and the recently-opened Hop Scotch Room of North Providence.

"After those three stops, we will be making a stop for a light lunch along the way," Ramos explained, "so they're getting some deals at the shops, they're getting lunch included, and transportation — how can you go wrong for $10?"

Shoppers will be able to take advantage of special deals at each place, and receive a discount coupon for use after the holidays, Ramos added.

"The business owners are thrilled that we're bringing people into their shops who may have never set foot in those businesses," said Ramos, "so it'll be a great opportunity to bring people into those businesses because once they visit the first time, chances are, they'll go back."

Sign up for this event by visiting the Chamber's Shopping Shuttle reservations web page — but hurry! A limited number of seats is available, and the ticket price goes up to $15 on Saturday.
