Outages Spike as Day Breaks in Johnston

After heading into Monday night with fewer than 140 outages reported, Johnston showed about 1,300 homes without power on Tuesday morning.

 

More than 1,300 households in the area of Hartford Avenue and Bishop Hill Road remained without power on Tuesday morning, according to the National Grid Outage Central website.

The loss of power apparenty happened at about 4:30 am, and National Grid crews were working to restore electricity to the area as of 9:30 am.

At one point on Monday night, as Hurricane Sandy swept across the state, some 116,000 customers were left without power; at 9 pm Monday night, Johnston reported 137 outages.

Otherwise, Johnston looked to have survived the storm in good shape — all major roads were clear of debris, and secondary roads had fallen leaves and puddles in some places.

Schools remained closed for the day, and are scheduled to resume Wednesday.
