New Eco-Depot Events Announced For March

Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation announced its collection drives for household hazardous waste (HHW) during the month.

The following is a press release from Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation.

(RIRRC) is giving state residents three opportunities to rid their homes of household hazardous waste at the Central Landfill this month.

The Eco-Depot collections, a free service provided only to Rhode Island residents, will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on March 3, 10 and 17. Rhode Islanders are encouraged to attend the drop-off collections at the RIRRC headquarters at 65 Shun Pike, Johnston, where RIRRC officials will accept and dispose of their household hazardous waste.

Household hazardous waste is collected separately from the state’s Central Landfill in order to protect humans, animals and the local environment. These are products that have warning labels indicating they are dangerous to human health because they are flammable, caustic, combustible or toxic. Common household hazardous waste items include fluorescent light bulbs, oil-based paint, mercury thermometers, used motor oil, gasoline, antifreeze, pool and lawn chemicals, propane tanks and pesticides.

“We are excited for this month’s collections and we anticipate a great turnout,” noted Joe Rotella, Special Waste Manager for RIRRC.“While we host a number of Eco-Depot collections at the Central Landfill throughout the year, we find our March events to be rather busy as residents seem to get a jump start on their spring cleaning. We hope that everyone takes advantage of this opportunity by making an Eco-Depot appointment so we can safely and properly dispose of their household hazardous waste.”
