Lightning Knocks Out Power to a Few Hundred in Johnston

Wednesday's fast-moving line of thunderstorms triggered lightning and flash flooding.

About 500 National Grid customers lost power as a result of Wedneday afternoon's thunderstorms, with five remaining without electricity this morning, according to the company's Outage Central website.

A band of fast-moving but very powerful thunderstorms moved through the Rhode Island area just after 4 pm on Wednesday, and several nearby communities reported wind and lightning damage, as well as .

Today's forecast includes a 20-percent chance of rain or isolated thunderstorms during the day, with clouds lingering overnight and into Friday. Mostly cloudy through Saturday morning.
