These types of trach cannot be combined with trash or recyclables under Rhode Island law. Because of their toxicity and potential to pollute the environment, these products need to be collected and recycled by special waste handlers.

Household hazardous waste includes any products that are poisonous, caustic, explosive, reactive, flammable or harmful to human health. The most common are propane gas tanks, non-latex paint, pool chemicals, turpentine, driveway sealers, fertilizer, mercury thermometers, and florescent light bulbs. E-waste includes unwanted televisions, CPUs, laptops, and monitors.
