Johnston Events, Apr. 28 and 29: Workshop, Fishing Derby, Fun Day

A woodworking workshop, a fishing derby at Memorial Park, and a fundraising walk to benefit the Johnston-based Autism Project are among the events on this weekend's planner.

Build and Learn: Lowe's Home Improvement in North Providence is hosting a Build and Grow workshop on Saturday starting at 10 am — it's a great way for your little handyman (or woman) to learn the basics of woodworking and have a nice project to show off. Healthy Kids: The Cranston YMCA — which runs — has scheduled its annual Healthy Kids day for Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm. Indoor games, dance, swimming, and more — along with information on living a healthy lifestyle. Free.

Fishing Derby: Johnston Memorial Park is the setting for Sunday's fishing derby for kids from 5 to 13 years of age.

There will be three divisions:

  • Ages 8-10: 8:30 - 10 am
  • Ages 5-7: 10:30 am - noon
  • Ages 11-13: 12:30 - 2 pm

Children younger than 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Registration required for this free event — call the at (401) 272-3460.

Walk and Fun Day: , HQ'd right here in Johnston, is holding its Imagine Walk and Family Fun Day on Sunday at 9 am at Goddard Park in East Greenwich. Planned activities include a reptile show, an obstacle course, bounce house, face painting and arts and crafts. The URI Rams football team and the PC Friar men's and women's basketball teams are also scheduled to participate.
