Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Set For Tomorrow

The Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation is accepting HHW tomorrow beginning at 8 a.m. at the Central Landfill.

Maybe the not-quite-winter weather has you thinking of cleaning up your garage, shed, basement, or closets — and what to do with those old lightbulbs, paint, used motor oil, and other household hazardous waste (HHW).

The Rhode Island Resource Recovery Corporation is scheduled to host another "Eco-Depot" collection tomorrow beginning at 8 a.m. at the Central Landfill, 65 Shun Pike.

Appointments are required to drop off HHW at the Landfill. Examples of household waste include dead florescent light bulbs, used motor oil and oil filters, old radiator coolant, remnant oil-based paint, mercury thermostats, mercury thermometers, leftover bug spray and unwanted lawn chemicals, RIRRC noted in a press release.

Unsure if the item is HHW? The RIRRC recommends checking the label and looking for the terms "flammable," "caustic," "combustible," "explosive," or "toxic."

The collections are free and available for Rhode Island residents only.
