Five Things for Friday: Rain, Holiday Events, Xmas Hours & More

There's just 18 days until Christmas — and there's lots of holiday-related news in today's 5 Things.

Smithfield Weather:

  • Friday: A partly sunny start gives way to clouds and a 50-percent chance of rain. Highs in the 40s.
  • Friday night: Rain and patchy fog. Temps hovering around 40.
  • Weekend: Near 100-percent chance of rain for Saturday. Gradually clearing, with a chance of rain lingering through Monday.

Holiday Events: If you're headed to the Crossing at Smithfield for some shopping today and tomorrow, there's a full slate of events at activities scheduled. Click here to learn more.

Celebrate the Season: Johnston Memorial Park and the Johnston Senior Center are hosting events on Saturday — the park has the Holiday Festival scheduled for noon to 3 pm, and the Johnston Police Explorers are setting up their craft fair at the Senior Center from 9 am to 4 pm. And, even though it's not holiday-related, there's also the dedication of the new Johnston High School Athletic Walk of Fame scheduled for 10 am.

Xmas Hours: Planning to open your business on Christmas Day and New Year's Day? SmithfieldPatch is the place to post your business name and hours on the holidays.

Clean Up: In advance of the holidays, why not clean out the basement or garage of all those old cans of paint and other yucky stuff? The Central Landfill is holding an Eco-Depot collection on Saturday from 8 am to noon. Here's the info on how to set an appointment to drop off your Household Hazardous Waste.
