Briarcliffe Breaks Ground for New Facility

The $2-million "Rehabilitation Cottage" will include 20 private bedrooms with bathrooms, and is expected to open in early January, 2014.

The newest addition to Briarcliffe Gardens in Johnston had its formal kick-off last week, as local officials and representatives from the companies that worked on the project joined Briarcliffe staffers for a groundbreaking on May 30.

Briarcliffe owner Ashkay Talwar explained that the $2-million facility is scheduled to open in early 2014.

The Johnston Planning Board gave initial approval to the project last March.

According to statistics provided by Briarcliffe, about 40 percent of current residents are from Johnston.

Following the ceremonial groundbreaking with Mayor Joseph Polisena, Council President Rovert V. Russo, and Councilman Anthony Verardo, Talwar spoke about the plan for the 'Rehabilitation Cottage' project, which will be patterned after the existing Alzheimer's rehabilitation unit currently on the Briarcliffe campus.
