Photo Gallery: Johnston Artists At Scituate Arts Festival

Watercolorist William B. MacGregor Jr. and stained glass designer Cyndi Stanton displayed their work at the festival over Columbus Day weekend.

Johnston residents William B. MacGregor and Cyndi Stanton were among the dozens of artists that set up shop on the Village Green in North Scituate for the 45th Annual held Oct. 8 to 10.

"The Scituate Arts Festival is the only artist show I do," explained watercolorist MacGregor, whose wife is Johnston High school Asst. Principal Dr. Elizabeth Mantelli.

Originally from Medfield, MA, MacGregor said he's a mechanical engineer by trade, and started drawing hot rod cars as a kid.

Now, MacGregor paints cars in junkyards, and has added added marine art, nauticals and seasonal pictures, like the Giant Pumpkin At The Fair painting that was displayed at the arts festival.

When asked how many hours it takes to complete one picture, MacGregor said: "Many hours, but it is really a labor of love."

Stained glass designer Stanton, who also calls Johnston her home, was at the art festival displaying her unique creations.

"This is my third year at the art festival," explained Stanton, adding she's had the same spot all three years.

Stanton, who has been designing stained glass for eight years, explained that she does her designs in her home studio, which has a secret garden, a waterfall and a pond.

It took five years to perfect her skill, said Stanton, who added she "loves the craft and anything that twinkles."

Among the elements she uses are Swarovski fine Austrian crystals and leaves from her backyard for many of the backgrounds.

Many of her works are also inspired by the sea, Stanton added.

"Sea shells and sand dollars I use a lot," she said.
