J-DAPA Dazzles With 'A Night of Sin'

If you've seen the Johnston Dance and Performing Arts Group (J-DAPA) perform in the past, then you know what to expect: Great dance routines and terrific singing. Their Feb. 18 performance of "A Night of Sin," a tribute to the Rat Pack, had all that with some truly hilarious moments.

David Sackal, who is an alumnus of , played the part of Frank Sinatra, singing many of his classic songs, along with Gary Swider as Dean Martin and Kody Fraser as Sammy Davis Jr. Some of the show's most entertaining moments occurred when the three were singing together and trading barbs, which were quite funny.

Speaking of funny, Jerry Lewis was played by Jimmy Rotondo, who was hilarious. There were also several amusing appearances from Ruth Buzzi, who was played by Aryanna Sackal.

Some of the most notable performances of the evening were "Over the Rainbow" by Alycia Bedrosian, "Moon River" by Rachel Sanzi, "Volare" by Gary Swider, and "My Way" by David Sackal.

"The cast worked so hard to get down the characters they're playing," said J-DAPA director Donna Tellier.

The hard work certainly paid off. By the end of the evening, the appreciative crowd was clearly won over by the talent and personality on stage. The latter was particularly outstanding — it's one thing to sing a classic song well, but the J-DAPA performers did a fantastic job of adding personality and charisma to each number.

At the end of the evening, Tellier also thank the many Johnston alumni who worked hard on stage and behind the scenes to make the show a success.

All proceeds from the show will be used for improvements to the Johnston High School auditorium, including a new sound system.
