Great Escape: Music, Laughs, Ballet, And Skating With Santa

Take a break from all of the shopping and enjoy music at some local venues, take in the ballet, or try outdoor ice-skating with Santa this weekend.

Local Happenings:

  • The Coppola Sisters Band will be appearing at on Killingly Street on Dec. 16 from 8-11 p.m. For more information about this three-piece group visit: Coppola Sisters.
  • Join on Putnam Pike for the AOK's "Hate Me For Life, Love Me To Death" CD-release party on Dec. 16. The event will feature hip-hop performances by AOK, Lingo, A-Money Gramz, and Ridiculuz to name a few. Ventt will take the stage on Dec. 17.   • on Hartford Avenue is hosting a Toys for Tots/Customer Appreciation Holiday Party on Dec. 17. The event begins at 7 p.m. Just bring a toy with you and you'll get to enjoy a complementary buffet and be entered into a raffle. Check out the Bar 101 website for more details.

Skating with Santa:

  • Skating is open at the Kennedy Plaza/Bank of America skating rink in Providence. The rink is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. And, you can skate with Santa this Sunday, Dec. 18 from 2-4 p.m. Visit the Skating Center website for more information.

  • The Smith-Appleby House Museum in Smithfield is holding Colonial Holiday Open House Days throughout the month of December and January.  This weekend’s event will be held on Dec. 18 from noon until 3 p.m. Take a tour and learn about the history of colonial holidays, traditions, decorations and enjoy some hearthside cooking and baked treats.   • Enjoy the Providence Ballet Theatre’s performance of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas this weekend. There are show times on Dec. 17 and 18 at RIC’s Sapinsely Hall. For ticket and other show information visit ric.edu .

Comedy

  • There's only a short time left to catch a performance of the Ocean State Follies. The group will be retiring at the end of the year!  But, you can see them this weekend as they present their Holiday Show at West Valley Inn in West Warwick on Dec. 16.   • There will be more laughs at the Comedy Factory’s two shows this weekend. On Dec. 16 catch six comedians and a DJ at Chelo’s Banquet Room in Warwick. Dinner begins at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8:30 p.m. The group will also perform on Dec. 17 at Rosie’s Lounge in Warwick. For ticket information please call 401-461-7896.
