Great Escape: Santas, A Nutcracker, And Lights, Lights, Lights
The holiday activities and festivities have come out in full force this weekend. We've listed some local ones and a couple that will take you to different parts of the state.
Local Holiday Events:
- Santa Claus is coming to Johnston Memorial Park on Dec. 10 to take part in the town’s annual Holiday Festival. The festivities are set to run from noon until 3 p.m., with free hayrides from noon until 2 p.m. For more information visit the Johnston Recreation Department website or find the event on Facebook.
- The Johnston Police Explorers Post #405 will hold its first Holiday Craft Fair on Dec. 11 at the Johnston Senior Center from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. More information about this event can be found on the .
Holiday Festivities Around the State:
- Roger Williams Park, along with the University of Rhode Island Outreach Center, hosts Holidays in the Park on Dec. 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Botanical Center at Roger Williams Park, Providence. Admission is free with a donation of a non-perishable food item to the RI Food Bank. There will be lots of activities for the kids, live music, food, a Poinsettias display and more. - Take a ride to historic Slater Mill in Pawtucket for a special Holiday Tour & Santa’s Workshop on Dec. 10. The event runs from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. where you can learn about the history of gingerbread, visit with Santa and the Slater Mill elves in the Wilkinson Mill Machine Shop or take a Santa’s Craft Workshop. - The Fort Adams Festival of Lights is set for Dec. 10 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Newport. This event features a tree lighting and decorating contest, a Christmas stroll, entertainment and refreshments. Your $2 entry fee includes one voting ballot. - The Festival Ballet Providence will present The Nutcracker at the Providence Performing Arts Center this week on Dec. 9, 10 and 11. For show times and ticket information visit PPAC.
- Another holiday classic, It’s A Wonderful Life, will begin at Trinity Repertory Company on Dec. 9 and run through Dec. 31. Trinity’s version of Frank Capra’s film, however, is performed as a radio play broadcast on Christmas Eve in 1949. For more detail and ticket information visit Trinity.
