5 Things To Know Today: May 11

Too much to list individually today at Mohr and the Senior Center; blood drive in Warwick; lawn care at Whole Foods; and today in history: an Indy record.

Library Activities: Marian J. Mohr Library hosts three great programs today:

  • Story time for ages 3 to 5 (and the adults what brung 'em) at 10:30 a.m.
  • Games for middle and high scho0l students from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
  • Genealogy group meeting for adults at 4:30 p.m. Seating is limited.

Senior Center Happenings: Not to be outdone, the senior center has a full slate today, as well:

Save A Life Or Three: Or more — I can't keep track of how many people one pint of blood will help. Good thing the Rhode Island Blood Center knows. Today, the Warwick Public Library hosts a blood drive from 3 to 6 p.m. Those unfamiliar with the area, it's where the new Walgreen's is, across from where Meadowbrook Cinema used to be. I also suggest a trip to Picasso's Pizza for an after-donation treat.

Help Your Lawn Grow: Whole Foods in Cranston offers tips on tonight at 6:30 p.m. Space is limited; follow the link for contact information.

Indy 500 a la Mario: In 29 tries, Mario Andretti only won the Indianapolis 500 once. On this date in 1988, he set a record of 221.565 mph on his way to starting fourth on the grid. The record has since been eclipsed — watch for tomorrow's 5 Things to learn who, and how fast. (from brainyhistory.com)
