5 Things To Know Today: March 28
One of last days for programs at the "old" Mohr; three area blood drives; Little League tryouts; public hockey in Smithfield, and today in history: hurl that rock.
3 Days And Counting: Today is the first of the three final days that the "old" Marian J. Mohr Library will be open; after March 31, the current facility will close until the new library opens on April 9. Students in grades 6 to 12 can Enjoy Spring and celebrate with old-fashioned games like Kick the Can, and indulge in old-fashioned lemonade, starting at 3 p.m. outside. Tonight's Reader's Lair, including a discussion of Mudshark by Gary Paulsen, will be held in the upstairs Reading Room beginning at 6:30 p.m.
3 Blood Drives: If you're looking to donate a pint of your best to the Rhode Island Blood Center, there are three chances today:
- Subway, 2244 Plainfield Pike, Cranston, 3 to 6 p.m.
- North Scituate Baptist Church, 619 W. Greenville Rd., No. Scituate, 3 to 8 p.m.
- Dunkin' Donuts, 900 Cranston St., Cranston, 3 to 6 p.m.
3-And-Out? Not if your Little Leaguer has the right skills — tonight is the first of four nights for Johnston Little League's major league tryouts, scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. at Ferri Middle School. Visit the Little League website for up-to-date info.

It's Been A Sport For A Long Time: It's an Olympic event these days with its own cult following, and today in 1957, the first national Curling Championship was held. (from brainyhistory.com)
