5 Things To Know Today: March 15

Story time at Mohr Library; final day of "Pink Specials" at Il Piccolo; public ice skating in Smithfield; charity shopping coupon at Warwick Mall; and today in history: Obvious tag not yet invented, but needed.

Mohr Library Storytime: Infants to 3-year-olds (and their parents, or course) are invited to story time beginning at 10:30 a.m. Stories, songs, rhymes, crafts — all the right stuff to tire out the littlies before nap time.

"Pink" At Il Piccolo: The local restaurant has been offering what it calls its "Pink Menu," with $2 from the sale of each item going to the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation. Participants receive a pin or bracelet for their donations, too. Today's the last day, so make it a special lunch or dinner treat — and help a great cause.

An Excellent Workout: Smithfield Ice Rink is open today for public skating from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is $3, skates $5.

Get A Discount — And Help Local Charities: Macy's department store at Warwick Mall is hosting a Charity Preview Shopping Day to celebrate its re-opening nearly a year after the floods of 2010. Purchase a $5 discount ticket at customer service and receive a special shopping discount at Macy's. Plus, the proceeds will go to local charities.

Good call, Life Magazine: On this date in 1968 — before he seared his rendition of "The Star Spangled Banner" into musical history — Jimi Hendrix was named "Most spectacular guitarist in the world" by Life magazine. (from brainyhistory.com; "obvious tag" reference in subhead is a nod to Fark.com)
