5 Things To Know Today: Feb. 25
Winter fun at the library; a packed high school sports schedule; cupcake wars at Cranston Central Library; open hockey at the Cranston rink; and today in history: We Are The World, We Are The Grammy Winners.
More At Mohr: Not the last time I'm going to use that one... Marian J. Mohr Memorial Library hosts two end-of-vacation-week programs for the littlies:
- Let It Snowman at 11 a.m. for kids 5 and older. Make a snowman out of marshmallows and candy — that's one tasty snowman (and you don't have to worry about any of the yellow parts, either)!
- Penguin Party for ages 5 and up, starting at 1 p.m. Crafts, games, and snacks — but no plunge into Pocasset Pond, sadly.
Big Night For JHS Sports: Prior school cancellations and a fluke of the schedule led to a full slate for Panther sports teams tonight:
- Boys' varsity basketball: The Panthers face off against The Prout School in the Division III semifinals tonight at CCRI in Warwick at 8 p.m. If (when!) the Panthers win, they earn the right to face the winner of the 6 p.m. East Greenwich-Juanita Sanchez game in the finals, scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Sunday, also at CCRI.
- Girls' varsity basketball: In their season finale, the Lady Panthers visit Moses Brown for the back end of a home-at-home series following Wednesday night's victory against the Quakers, 48-33.
- Boys' varsity ice hockey: The Johnston-North Providence co-op team, the Cougars, visit Lynch Arena in Pawtucket at 7 p.m. tonight to square off against Tolman tonight. Tomorrow night at 6:30, they host the West Warwick/Exeter-West Greenwich co-op squad at Smithfield Ice Rink.
Two Words That Don't Belong Together: . But that's the name that Cranston Central Library has given today's cupcake decorating contest. Cupcakes and toppings provided; creativity required.

Public Hockey In Cranston: Bring your snipers, goons, and goalies to Cranston Ice Rink for , scheduled to start at 12:10 p.m. $10 per player.
Michael Jackson And... Bob Dylan?! Unbelievably, those two artists did sing together once — once. The smash hit "We Are the World" won a Grammy award on this date in 1986. (From brainyhistory.com)
